From Eden to Babylon
This is the only one of my books which was published by another company. Numbers 2 to 5 and hopefully those beyond are self published. However I really enjoyed writing this story which is loosely based on and inspired by my paternal grandparents. I don’t know their full history, but a few elements of their story have passed down the generations, and I have filled in the gaps with historic likelihood’s.
One story though is true: when Amicia, who was a nurse in England during WW1, heard that her brother Edmund had been seriously wounded in Mesopotamia and was now in northern India recovering, she insisted in travelling to him to nurse him back to full health.
She made the perilous journey on her own from England to India during WW1. This was extraordinary and unprecedented. Have you ever heard of such a venture before? She finally arrived at his hospital in Northern India and spent 2 years caring for Edmund, when doctors had all but given up on him.
Edmund lived to be 79 years of age and later had a family of his own. Amicia met his rescuer and they were married in 1920, producing 3 children in rapid succession!
Amicia brought her 3 baby children back to England on her own as her husband still had several years of his contract in the Indian Army to complete. I am extremely proud of my grandmother Amicia.
