Book Fairs
I really enjoy meeting people and talking to them about my books and the history of the times and even more its great to listen to them and hear their stories. When showing my books about the history of the twentieth century, and in particular about the 2 world wars, most people respond “I had an uncle who was in that campaign, a father, a grandfather, a mother etc” They take great pleasure in telling me their family stories. I can then recommend to them which book they may like to read and tell them a brief history of the campaign if I know of it. I love the discussions I get into and learn a lot from people. At my last market I met a lady who wrote a book and a play about the history of flying and the origins of Rolls Royce and the Short Brothers, which I knew nothing about. She kindly sent me both books and I read them whilst on holiday recently. They were beautifully written and so interesting.
I therefore try to attend as many markets and book fairs as possible. I have a busy time up till Christmas and this is my schedule:
The Hawkesbury Upton Literary Festival (10th Anniversary). 27th September
(Organised by the brilliant author Debbie Young)
The Suffolks Market Cheltenham. 26th October
St Gregory’s 55 Club (I am giving a talk about the Poppy Factory) 13th November
The Lions Christmas Market, Chippenham. 15th November
The South Devon Book Fair (Totnes). 22nd November
The Downend Book Fair (Bristol). 6th December.
Can you make any of these? Please let me know if you need more information.
I will report back!
Best Wishes
